Why Queensland Reserves Plumbing for Licence Holders

Queensland requires two licences for plumbing and drainage work: the person doing it holds an occupational licence, and the business carrying the job holds a contractor licence. The QBCC grants each. The first shows the holder is competent at the trade; the second shows the business has the finances and systems to stand behind its jobs.

Three classes divide the work itself. Plumbing work, the pipes and fixtures in and around a house, sits on a plumber's licence. Drainage below ground level sits on a drainer's licence instead.

Gas fitting is the third class. Only a gas work licence holder may fit, alter or sign off a gas system and its pipework, which is the work our gas fitters carry out.

Regulated work comes in three tiers: permit, notifiable and minor. A licensee has to handle every tier, whatever the size of the job. The QBCC's guidance says that requirement guards the house, your health and your rights as an owner.

Paperwork and Inspections After a Job

Two authorities share the checking. The QBCC runs licensing and records notifiable jobs, while the City of Moreton Bay processes permit applications and sends inspectors around.

You can verify all this yourself: the QBCC website lists licence holders, and searching an address shows any Form 4 recorded for that property.

After the job, the paperwork you receive depends on the work:

  1. Notifiable jobs

you, or whoever booked us, receives the Form 4. If yours goes missing, the QBCC will issue a replacement.

  2. Gas jobs

once a new install or alteration is finished, the gasfitter hands you the gas compliance certificate straight away.

You're also entitled to ask the council to inspect notifiable jobs whenever you like. An inspector may attend, with the occupier's okay, up to 1 year after we notify the QBCC.

The Suburbs We Work Across

Our round takes in the neighbouring suburbs, and Woorim and Banksia Beach both have dedicated pages here. The rounds pass the Bribie Island Police Station and the Bribie Island Fire Station before looping back toward the bridge. For the whole catchment, see our nearby suburbs page.

Questions About the Team

Call (07) 3523 7172

Is every job done by a licensed plumber?

Yes, every job is done by a licensed plumber. The work runs under QBCC No: 15024607, and the business is licensed and insured.

What paperwork do I get after plumbing work?

Notifiable jobs come with a Form 4 recorded for your address; gas jobs finish with a gas compliance certificate. Both papers cover the pipes on your side, because the mains and sewer belong to Unitywater.

What does QBCC licensed mean for my plumbing job?

QBCC licensed means the state's building regulator has issued the licences behind the work: one for the tradesman on the tools, one for the business running the job. You can check both on the QBCC website.

Which nearby suburbs does the team work in?

Our round takes in the neighbouring suburbs, and Woorim and Banksia Beach are two of them, each with a dedicated page here. Unitywater looks after the public mains and sewer; pipes on your property are yours. The full list is on our nearby suburbs page.
